Purpose of Classification:
Supervises lock operations for a centralized operating component of the University, including the formulation and application of a consistent and uniform key strategy. Oversees the provision of daily routine and emergency lock and key services, as well as the creation of an institution-wide pin and keyway hierarchy that ensures the maintenance of a unique and secure series of keyways and provides an expandable lock inventory within each department's facility.
Standard Duties:
Supervises personnel which typically includes recommendations for hiring, firing, performance evaluation, training, work allocation, and problem resolution. Creates and oversees the maintenance of an institution-wide pin and keyway hierarchy that forms the foundation of campus building security and ensures on-going lock inventory expandability. Ensures adherence to established University and departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance programs, and safety standards. Advises senior management on options and strategies for maintaining and enhancing campus-wide building security. Prepares, approves and processes weekly schedules, time cards and payroll documents and orders supplies. Participates in work performed by locksmiths; rekeys buildings, cuts and issues keys, installs hardware, and performs other tasks as needed. Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of supplies, equipment, and/or services ordering and inventory control. Knowledge of organizational structure, workflow, and operating procedures. Working knowledge of electronic controlled access systems.
Skill in the use of computers, preferably in a PC, Windows-based operating environment. Computerized records maintenance skills. Skill in examining existing practices and procedures, and developing and implementing new strategies and procedures. Skill in the use of computers, specifically in a PC, Windows-based operating environment. Employee development and performance management skills.
Ability to monitor and/or maintain quality control standards. Ability to cut and issue keys, re-key, install and repair locks and hardware. Ability to resolve customer complaints and concerns. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Ability to use hand and power tools applicable to trade. Ability to plan, implement, manage, and control electronic key card systems. Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures. Ability to supervise and train employees, to include organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments. Ability to work both independently and in a team environment. Ability to complete moderately complex administrative paperwork. Ability to foster a cooperative work environment. Ability to coordinate quality assurance programs in area of specialty. Ability to plan, design and implement master key systems.
Minimum Qualifications:
   Education- High School diploma or GED certificate.
   Experience- Five (5) years of experience related to the standard duties as outlined.
   Equivalency- Completion of a post-secondary degree or certificate may substitute for years of experience.
