| Purpose of Classification: | |
| Provides a full range of advanced engineering services in support of campus-wide utilities operations and programs. Performs and/or oversees utilities engineering planning, design, and development, and provides professional guidance, project coordination, and technical support to Utilities' staff and customers | |
| Standard Duties: | |
| On engineering projects; sets parameters, develops specifications, evaluates compliance with project and engineering standards and approves final design. Oversees, reviews and approves the work of University and Contract staff engaged in utility projects. Conducts acceptance testing and analysis of new equipment and performances efficiency testing of existing equipment. Performs economic analysis of proposed projects and programs. Identifies, investigates and analyzes a wide range of complex technical issues and develops safe, efficient, cost-effective solutions. Engineering technical support for utilities project, maintenance and operations for generation and production. Develops and maintains a current, integrated capacity analysis on existing utilities equipment and distribution. Authors regular reports detailing the performance of the utilities operation relative to key performance parameters; prepares complex reports as required by various Government agencies. | |
| Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: | |
| Knowledge and understanding of all relevant federal and state laws, regulations, and operating guidelines. Advanced knowledge and understanding of engineering principles, methods, and techniques within broad area of specialty. Knowledge and understanding of complex utility processes, to include chilled water production, steam generation, and electric generation. | |
| Project planning skills. Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community. | |
| Ability to analyze and interpret data and prepare evaluative summary reports and correspondence. Ability to provide technical leadership and project management to engineering projects of high complexity and broad ranging scope. Ability to develop and manage project budgets, and to track and project costs using computer spreadsheet techniques. Ability to manage and coordinate the work of technical consultants and/or contractors. Ability to analyze complex engineering problems and devise creative and effective solutions. Ability to supervise and train employees, to include organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments. | |
| Minimum Qualifications: | |
| Education- Bachelor's degree in a related field. | |
| Experience- Two (2) years of experience directly related to the standard duties as outlined. | |
| Equivalency- None | |
| Certifications/License- New Mexico Professional Engineer registration required, or the ability to achieve registration within two consecutive testing cycles from date of hire. | |
