Purpose of Classification:
The Facilities Space Planning Manager reports to the University Architect and serves on a team responsible for the planning, management, and utilization of space within NMSU system facilities (buildings and outdoor spaces, owned and leased). The incumbent works closely with and in support of the University Architect and supervises the Facilities Space Planner on a wide variety of projects to provide information and planning expertise for strategic studies and programming for space and capital initiatives. Plans for the long term space management and planning needs of the university.
Standard Duties:
Works with constituent groups in all management aspects of University Space Management, policies, guidelines and specific practices and processes. Coordinates the updating of small scale building plans and campus mapping with the Facilities Space Planner and the Facilities and Services CAD group. Ensures that Facilities and Services has a unified space data gathering, analysis and reporting system. Evaluates, manages and makes recommendations to the University Architect regarding requests for new campus space, temporary use of space, and/or space reallocations. Receives and processes project requests from a variety of campus units for conformance with University planning space usage, and design criteria. Oversees the preparation of comprehensive facilities use and feasibility data from internal and external resources used For campus planning, capital improvement, and long-range planning. Analyzes the impact of new construction, renovation, and various remodeling on space planning and usage statistics. Oversees the development of, manages, and maintains an accurate NMSU system facilities inventory and establishes a methodology so that this information is easily shared.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of university planning, space utilization, and facilities management. Knowledge of supervisory practices and principles. Knowledge of business statistics and in the use of software programs, including word processing and spreadsheets, as well as familiarity with database development and retrieval techniques.
Skill in verbal and written communication. Strong planning, analytical, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to communicate effectively. Ability to form positive, collaborative relationships with various constituencies and be responsive to a diverse set of needs within the campus community and external agencies. Ability to formulate and implement strategic initiatives related to Space Management.
Minimum Qualifications:
   Education- Bachelor's degree in a related field.
   Experience- Five (5) years of experience directly related to the standard duties as outlined.
   Equivalency- Any combination of education and experience as approved by Human Resource Services.
