Purpose of Classification: | |
Installs and maintains the many mechanical, electrical and electronic components, such as motors, compressors, pumps, fans, ducts, pipes, thermostats and switches that are part of heating, air-conditioning and refrigeration systems. Maintains, diagnoses, and corrects problems throughout the entire system using special tools and test equipment. | |
Standard Duties: | |
Performs troubleshooting and repair of building distribution systems including low pressure steam distribution, heat exchangers, hot and cold deck systems, air handlers, and pneumatic and digital controls; Performs HVAC system inspections and manufacturer-recommended preventive maintenance; Performs major component replacement work in conjunction with central energy management and control system operators; Performs seasonal overhauls and instructs repair teams in transition of systems from heating to cooling and vice versa; Monitors and adjusts system set points and output using remote computer links to the building’s programmable logic controls; Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices; Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned. | |
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: | |
Knowledge of HVAC installation, troubleshooting, repair and maintenance; Knowledge of refrigerant recovery; Working knowledge of HVAC and associated systems employing computer-based monitoring and control devices; Knowledge of mechanical equipment, plumbing, utilities, distribution systems, and controls, including maintenance and troubleshooting. | |
Should have excellent written and verbal communication skills. | |
Ability to use hand and power tools applicable to trade; Ability to perform preventive maintenance according to published guidelines; Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures; Ability to repair and/or replace building mechanical systems components, including programmable logic controls; Ability to use computer-based monitoring and control devices in maintaining and troubleshooting HVAC systems. | |

Certifications/License- Possession of a valid unrestricted driver’s license is a requirement for this job. Must possess a New Mexico Journeyman’s Refrigeration License. Must possess an EPA Universal Refrigerant Handler Card. | |
