Purpose of Classification:
Performs installs, maintains, calibrates, troubleshoots, repairs, and upgrades various controls related to low voltage special systems to include communications and ancillary equipment. Types of special systems include, but not limited to, HVAC digital controls, building automation, fire alarm and access control and intrusion alarm. Collaborates with lead technician and with other technicians within the facility to ensure the continuity and reliability of services campus-wide
Standard Duties:
Responsible for operation, maintenance and integration of building special systems programmable logic control (PLC) based operating systems, and interface software. Installs, maintains, troubleshoots and configures special building systems and ancillary equipment. Performs network integration of TCP/IP and serial based infrastructure to support communication protocols specific to the system. Supports the development and maintenance of the central special system database to include field device integration, web page development, and historical data trends and systems alarm creation. Assists with the managing and tracking systems to ensure optimal performance of the application and equipment. Installs, maintains, troubleshoots, repairs electronic sensors, actuators, and switches on special system infrastructure up to 50 volts. Reads, interprets, utilizes, and maintains schematics, blueprints, users' manuals, and other equipment documentation, using computers and hard copy. Executes Assists in the calibration and routine maintenance schedules and procedures for special systems and ancillary equipment. Consults with lead technician, contractors and vendors regarding job-related projects, to ensure compliance with NMSU design guidelines and governing agencies.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of calibration standards and instrument installation requirements. Working knowledge of special system applications and protocols. Knowledge of TCP/IP and serial communication application and standards.
Skill in the use of personal computers and related special systems software applications. Proficient with electrical multi-meters, communication diagnostic tools in support of HVAC, Building, Alarm and Access Control systems. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively at all levels in a collaborative team environment.
Ability to calibrate, test, and maintain a variety of electrical and electronic devices. Ability to read and interpret electrical, electronic, and mechanical schematics, blueprints, and drawings. Must have the ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures. Ability to use PLC-based operating systems and interface software.
Minimum Qualifications:
   Education- High School diploma or GED certificate.
   Experience- Three (3) years of experience related to the standard duties as outlined.
   Equivalency- Completion of a post-secondary degree or certificate may substitute for years of experience.
   Certifications/License- NM Journeyman Refrigeration Card (NMJR) or NM Journeyman Low Voltage Special System (ES-3J)
