Purpose of Classification:
Leads the work of lower level Controls & Safety System technicians and participates in the maintenance, inspection, repair, and installation of control and safety systems. Responsible for scheduling work across multiple locations and/or buildings. Instructs and coordinates lower-level technicians in support of the advanced technological needs of the modern building systems.
Standard Duties:
Assigns, performs, and inspects the work of Control & Safety System technicians and Facilities technicians. Leads and coordinates the work of other plant technicians to ensure safe, reliable and efficient operations of control and safety systems. Responsible for the managing and tracking systems to ensure optimal performance of the application and equipment. Analyzes and applies complex techniques for approved modifications to standard equipment to meet special technical requirements. Oversees quality of workmanship and timely project completion. Plans and develops work schedules for system maintenance and repairs, prepares reports and records on inspections, testing and repair activities. Develop and implement maintenance procedures, ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of tools, equipment, and supplies. Reviews work order time entries, orders materials, and assists in the performance evaluation process. Reads, interprets, utilizes and maintains schematics, blueprints, user manuals, and other equipment documentation, using computers and hard copy. Trains, or participates in the training of other technicians performing related work.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of calibration standards and instrument installation requirements. Working knowledge of special system applications and protocols. Knowledge of TCP/IP and serial communication application and standards. Knowledge of best practices in supervising trades personnel
Skill in the use of personal computers and related special systems software applications. Technical leadership skills within area of expertise. Proficient with electrical multi-meters, communication diagnostic tools in support of HVAC, Building, Alarm and Access Control systems. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively at all levels in a collaborative team environment.
Ability to calibrate, test, and maintain a variety of electrical and electronic devices. Ability to read and interpret electrical, electronic, and mechanical schematics, blueprints, and drawings. Must have the ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures. Ability to use PLC-based operating systems and interface software.
Minimum Qualifications:
   Education- High School diploma or GED certificate.
   Experience- Five (5) years of experience related to the standard duties as outlined.
   Equivalency- Completion of a post-secondary degree or certificate may substitute for years of experience.
   Certifications/License- NM Journeyman Refrigeration Card (NMJR) or NM Journeyman Low Voltage Special System (ES-3J)
