Purpose of Classification:
This classification coordinates the day to day operations of an equipment maintenance operation.
Standard Duties:
Leads and coordinates the work of assigned staff. Assists supervisors in implementing changes to shop operations, policies and procedures. Prepares work orders, reports and project time charges. Monitors and requisitions supplies, equipment and tools. Overhauls small engines (1-6 cylinders) and repairs transmissions, clutches and hydraulic systems. Performs tune-ups, and repairs braking systems, steering systems, and ignition systems on equipment such as generators, mowers, snow blowers, street sweepers, golf carts, electric trucks, tugs, cranes and weed eaters. Performs preventive maintenance on grounds equipment including oil changes, lubrication, replacing worn parts, and replacing blades. May perform minor maintenance on light trucks and cars. Repairs custodial equipment such as vacuums and burnishers. Operates diagnostic electronic equipment to check charging systems, blade tip speeds, braking systems and electronic ignition. Troubleshoots systems failures in starters, alternators and portable emergency generators. Performs arc and gas welding and fabricates unique turf equipment.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of repair and maintenance of grounds equipment and small engines.
Skill in the use of a variety of hand tools. Skill in the use of gas and electric welding equipment. Skill in the use of mechanized tools, jacks, and hoists. Skill in the use of a variety of diagnostic testing and tuning equipment.
Ability to provide work direction to others. Ability to effectively communicate.
Minimum Qualifications:
   Education- High School diploma or GED certificate.
   Experience- Five (5) years of experience related to the standard duties as outlined.
   Equivalency- Completion of a post-secondary degree or certificate may substitute for years of experience.
   Certifications/License- Possession of a current New Mexico driver's license is required upon employment. Small engine or equipment manufacturer's certification.
