Purpose of Classification:
Manage the workforce that provides maintenance and operation services for campus facilities and infrastructure; Plan, organize, coordinate, and direct repair, replacement, and remodel projects in conjunction with University initiatives; oversee ongoing development of preventative maintenance programs; ensure regulatory compliance requirements for trade shop’s activities and equipment; and manage a responsive, focused program of scheduled inspections to address maintenance issues and communication with departments.
Standard Duties:
Supervises workforce in providing maintenance and operations services for campus facilities including Electricity Production, Steam Production, Chilled Water, Production, and including infrastructure by: planning, organizing, coordinating, and supervising repair, replacement, and remodel projects; hiring and training skilled and semi-skilled personnel; coordinating activities to accommodate University initiatives; oversee workplace safety training and compliance programs; oversee ongoing development of preventative maintenance programs; ensure regulatory compliance requirements for plant activities and equipment; and maintain a responsive, focused program of scheduled inspections to address maintenance issues and communication with departments. Supervises two or more full-time employees, or their equivalent, on a regular basis. Makes decisions regarding hiring, evaluation, promotion and termination of employees, or makes related recommendations that are given particular weight.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of the tools, equipment and materials common to the trade. Knowledge of the principles, practices and techniques of supervision. Knowledge of planned maintenance principles, practices and techniques.
Skilled in applying planned maintenance principles, practices and techniques. Skilled in estimating time and materials required for assignment. Skill in estimating time and materials required for assignment. Skill in the efficient coordinated operation of a co-generation, steam, and chilled water plant.
Ability to effectively communicate.
Minimum Qualifications:
   Education- HS or GED diploma
   Experience- Eight (8) years of experience directly related to the standard duties as outlined.
   Equivalency- Completion of post-secondary degree or certificate may substitute for years of experience. Any equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience as approve by Human Resource Services.
   Certifications/License- Receipt of valid New Mexico B01/B02 boiler operator’s license within one (1) year of hire date. Valid unrestricted driver’s license.
