Purpose of Classification:
Supervises construction workers and trade helpers in the construction, repair, and/or restoration of buildings and facilities.
Standard Duties:
Supervises two or more full-time employees, or their equivalent, on a regular basis. Makes decisions regarding hiring, evaluation, promotion and termination of employees, or makes related recommendations that are given particular weight. Schedules, assigns, plans and supervises the work of construction personnel performing a variety of construction projects. Plans and develops work schedules, equipment usage schedules, priority of expenditures and procedures for equipment maintenance. Estimates material and labor. Monitors the acquisition and use of materials. Maintains time, payroll and material records and submits reports. Trains or informs employees of new work methods or procedures, changes in safety regulations, work policies and construction codes. Ensures budgeting guidelines are met; prioritizes expenditures and assists in preparation of capital and operations budgets. Interprets university and department policies to assigned personnel and enforces safety regulations and adherence to proper codes and standards. Reviews plans and specifications for future buildings and inspects new buildings to ensure quality work and code and specifications compliance.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of computer operation. Knowledge of supervisory principles, practices and techniques. Knowledge of the tools, equipment and materials common to the carpentry trade. Knowledge of cabinet making techniques.
Skill in the construction, repair, restoration and installation of wood or related materials. Skill in estimating time and material requirements of work projects assigned. Skill in supervising the work of others.
Ability to effectively communicate.
Minimum Qualifications:
   Education- Vocational/Technical certificate
   Experience- Eight (8) years of experience directly related to the standard duties as outlined.
   Equivalency- Any equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience as approved by Human Resource Services.
   Certifications/License- GB98
