Purpose of Classification:
To provide leadership, direction, technical expertise, knowledge support, planning, and guidance for operating, maintenance and modification of campus electrical, plumbing, and heating/cooling distribution and control systems.
Standard Duties:
Supervises, directs, delegates, and evaluates the work of assigned staff and monitors progress. Acts on behalf of the Executive Director in his/her absence. Makes recommendations for hiring decisions and is responsible for group personnel actions. Reviews small project designs with project manager. Develops and oversees technical specs for critical equipment, projects or support services. Reviews systems needs for upgrading and repairs. Manages, develops, and completes a wide variety of engineering project and programs such as maintaining an adequate utility system and electrical system. Supervises the preparation of special studies, projects and reports. Assists in the development and implementation of goals, objectives, policies, engineering standards, and priorities. Advises and assists the Department Director on engineering issues and problems and changing community circumstances that may affect or be affected by University/Department policies and procedures. Ensures appropriate technical support to all areas of the OFS and other departments. Develops long range plans for utility systems. Master planning campus wide utility systems. Performs related duties as required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
University and department policies and procedures; construction operation and business procedures; principles and practices of engineering disciplines; applicable laws and codes regulating design and construction; principles and practices of organization and administration; principles of supervision, training, and performance evaluation; building systems, central distribution systems (mechanical, electrical, civil).
Short and long-range planning; problem analysis and resolution; public contact; research methods.
Direct, evaluate, train, and supervise the work of assigned personnel; communicate effectively in written and oral form; develop and maintain effective working relationships; use independent judgment and initiative; organize and direct several activities; analyze and evaluate information; operate a computer. Make engineering computations & check, design and supervise the construction of a wide variety of university facilities.
Minimum Qualifications:
   Education- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.
   Experience- Eight (8) years of experience directly related to the standard duties as outlined.
   Equivalency- None
   Certifications/License- New Mexico Professional Engineer registration required, or the ability to achieve registration within two consecutive testing cycles from date of hire.
