Purpose of Classification: | |
The Deputy Director of the Office of Institution Equity (OIE) & Title IX Coordinator works closely with the Executive Director to manage all functions related to investigation and resolution of discrimination complaints by faculty, staff and students and works closely with campus administrative offices to ensure compliance with federal and state laws, and NMSU policies regarding equal opportunity, and affirmative action. The position requires performance of highly responsible and complex professional duties, and design, development and management of specialized programs for NMSU’s affirmative action, equal opportunity, Americans with Disabilities Act accommodations and Title IX programs. The Deputy Director reports to the Executive Director. | |
Standard Duties: | |
- Assist the Executive Director in management of all operations of the OIE Office including supervision of employees and budgetary responsibilities. - Assist the Executive Director in serving as the University’s Title IX Coordinator including all aspects of intake, investigation, response and resolution of reports of sexual misconduct, and providing analysis, reporting of findings and recommendations in a timely manner. - Provide oversight and guidance, under the direction of the Executive Director, to all OIE employees in conducting EEO and Title IX investigations (including investigation strategy, document collection, and report preparation), resolving ADA employee accommodation requests, and assuring university compliance with both state and federal non-discrimination laws and NMSU policies and procedures. - Assist in monitoring changes in EEO and Title IX laws, policies, and procedures and provide guidance and leadership in reviewing and changing existing websites and informational documents and NMSU policies and procedures. - Utilize available data to identify patterns or systemic problems related to diversity & inclusion, equity, and sexual misconduct within the University community and communicate such information to relevant internal stakeholders. - Provide accurate, sound, and expert advice to the University community as it relates to EEO matters and resolution of EEO internal complaints. - Collaborate with the Executive Director to collect and provide timely accurate information to the NMSU Police Department as needed for Clery Act annual security reporting. - Provide equal opportunity, affirmative action and sexual misconduct prevention training, presentations and awareness programs as needed for students and employee groups. - Collaborate with various University offices and groups including the Dean of Students, Campus Housing, Athletics, Employee Labor Relations, Human Resource Services, and Aggie Health and Wellness Center within the context of Title IX and equal opportunity issues. - Support efforts of consulting firm in preparation of Affirmative Action Plan (AAP), obtain necessary demographic information and collaborate with HR to implement the AAP. -Assist in the production of procedures/manual for OIE office - Perform additional duties as assigned. | |
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: | |
- Knowledge of relevant law and compliance regulations under Title IX, Title VII, other federal and state non-discrimination laws, and ADA. - Knowledge of due process, trauma informed investigations, credibility assessment | |
- Skill in investigative techniques, analysis of evidence and report writing. - Formulation of policy, procedures and other documentation relevant to equal opportunity and Title IX compliance. - Informative and engaging presentation style. - Conflict management and resolution. | |
- Ability to accurately communicate analysis and information verbally and in written form. - Ability to use independent judgment and to manage and impart information to a range of clientele and/or media sources. Minimum Qualifications: | |
Education- Master’s degree in a related field. | |
Experience- Three (3) years of professional experience in one or more areas of expertise required of this position. | |
