Purpose of Classification:
Responsible for the operation and maintenance of the voice and alarm communication systems. Provides diagnostics to maintain telecommunications equipment. Troubleshoots problems and contacts appropriate vendors for service. Maintains contacts with vendors of telecommunications equipment and services regarding enhancements to or replacements for existing services and products. Trains users and supports FAX network. Assists in the networking of data, both internally and externally. Supervises departmental staff
Standard Duties:
Develops, implements and maintains policies and procedures for installing, troubleshooting, repairing and maintaining telecommunications equipment. Oversees research, evaluation and implementation of new technologies. Familiar with a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures. Researches, recommends and implements new technologies to ensure effective telecommunications services.Relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of tasks. Awide degree of creativity and latitude is expected.Oversees the supervision of personnel, which includes: work allocation, training,promotion and enforcement of internal procedures and controls and problem resolution: evaluates performance and makes recommendations for personnel actions; motivates employees to achieve peak productivity and performance.Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of business practices and procedures. Knowledge of and insight into current and emerging digital communications technologies and their potential application to education and research.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community. Skill in budget preparation and fiscal management. Skill in examining and re-engineering operations and procedures, formulating policy, and developing and implementing new strategies and procedures. Skill in the utilization of organizational management principles, methods, techniques, and best practices. Employee development and performance management skills.
Ability to develop and produce grants and other proposals. Ability to perform complex applied analyses of capabilities, potential applications, and cost/benefits of alternative technologies. Ability to effectively interact with private and federal funding foundations and agencies. Ability to make administrative/procedural decisions and judgments. Ability to develop and implement strategic plans and programs in area of expertise. Ability to direct multi-departmental technical and administrative staff. Ability to interpret, adapt and apply guidelines and judgments.
Minimum Qualifications:
   Education- Bachelor's degree in a related field.
   Experience- Five (5) years of experience directly related to the standard duties as outlined.
