Purpose of Classification:
Supervises employees who monitor and control computer equipment, observe operations of equipment and jobs, exclusive of the systems and programming function. Develops and establishes department standards and procedures, and assigns work to the operations staff. Prepares activity and progress reports.
Standard Duties:
Develops and implements computer operations procedures, inventories, logs, production and preventive maintenance schedules, and related documentation. Ensures adherence to established University and departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance programs, and safety standards. Oversees the supervision of personnel, which includes work allocation, training, promotion and enforcement of internal procedures and controls, and problem resolution; evaluates performance and makes recommendations for personnel actions; motivates employees to achieve peak productivity and performance. Prepares and recommends budget for operation staffing, hardware, and other components, and maintains proper records. Maintains compliance with departmental security, audit procedures, and university policy.Develops long-range plans for computer operations, including hardware, staffing, and physical environment. Prepares and presents reports of computer operation activity. Participates as a member of management team in planning, problem resolution, and reviewing department performance. Maintains currency of knowledge with respect to relevant state-of-the-art technology, equipment, and/or systems. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of operational staffing and equipment requirements. Knowledge of faculty and/or staff hiring procedures. Knowledge of organizational structure, workflow, and operating procedures. Knowledge of current technological developments/trends in area of expertise. Knowledge of planning and scheduling techniques.
Skill in budget preparation and fiscal management. Records maintenance skills. Skill in examining and re-engineering operations and procedures, formulating policy, and developing and implementing new strategies and procedures.
Ability to resolve customer complaints and concerns. Ability to monitor and/or maintain quality control standards. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Ability to gather and analyze statistical data and generate reports. Ability to supervise and train employees, to include organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments. Ability to foster a cooperative work environment.
Minimum Qualifications:
   Education- Bachelor's degree in a related field.
   Experience- Five (5) years of experience directly related to the standard duties as outlined.
