Purpose of Classification: | |
Manages teams of employees who administer NMSU's computing infrastructure. These teams consist of the storage computing team, windows servers, unix server team which includes the super computer for research. This position is responsible for staff that design, debug, document, and install hardware and associated operating systems, storage systems, and applications; and monitor systems and applications. This position is also responsible for the email communication infrastructure and other office 365 applications as well as identity management. They ensure the recommended maintenance and appropriate modification of existing operating systems are conducted to maximize security and efficiency. Coordinates technical support in the effective use of software with other technical groups across the NMSU System. The position will be second to the Director Enterprise IT for Computing and Communications Infrastructure. | |
Standard Duties: | |
Oversees all aspects of computing operations for the NMSU system. This position will work closely with the director to establish the strategic direction of the department. Coordinates new system development and improvements to existing systems with other CT and NMSU-system Technical teams; serves on committees for on-going analysis of system improvement. Reviews evaluates and makes recommendations on proposals for hardware or software acquisition as required. Recommends, participates in the development of, writes and implements rules and procedures. Participates as a member of management team in planning, problem resolution, and reviewing department performance. Ensures adherence to established University and departmental policies, rules and procedures, objectives, quality assurance programs and safety standards. Assists in recommending and establishing organizational policies and procedures. Performs problem resolution and provides e4 hour on-call support for computer/network systems. Implements appropriate educational and training programs to ensure high quality professional staff performance. Serves as a technical lead as appropriate, directing and integrating the work of up to twelve system developers. Oversees the supervision of personnel, which includes work allocations trainings, promotion and enforcement of internal procedures and controls and problem resolution; evaluates performance and makes recommendations for personnel actions motivates employees to achieve peak productivity and performance. Maintains currency of knowledge with respect to relevant state-of-the-art technology, equipment, and/or systems. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned. | |
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: | |
Knowledge of current technological developments/trends in area of expertise. Knowledge of security principles and how to apply them. Knowledge of customer service standards and procedures. Knowledge of a broad range of relevant multi-user computer systems, applications, and/or equipment. Knowledge of organizational structure, workflow, and operating procedures. | |
Skill in examining and re-engineering operations and procedures, formulating policy, and developing and implementing new strategies and procedures. | |
Ability to monitor and/or maintain quality control standards. Ability to provide technical guidance and leadership to professional personnel in area of expertise. Ability to resolve customer complaints and concerns. Ability to coordinate and integrate information technology systems development, enhancement and modifications from an overall information services perspective. | |
Minimum Qualifications: | |
Education- Bachelor's degree in a related field. | |
Experience- Five (5) years of experience directly related to the standard duties as outlined. | |
