Purpose of Classification: | |
Reporting to the central information technology organization (ICT), under minimal supervision, provides technical expertise, leadership, and engagement at the institution level in the successful research and educational pursuits across the NMSU and NSF communities. Executes and implements the NMSU Institution Cyber Infrastructure Plan. Develops partnership with research projects within the institution, across institutions, and national level on shared goals. Develop plans to leverage existing institution enterprise IT infrastructure such as networking, distributed data management, or scientific computing. Makes system-wide recommendations for research cyberinfrastructure to top-level leadership through research faculty advisory group(s). Conducts independent research and serves as technical adviser on complex, integrated research projects. Shares successful support solutions with regional and national peers through meetings, conferences, and publications within grant compliance requirements. | |
Standard Duties: | |
Designs, and manages cyberinfrastructure of critical interest to the institution’s research community; sets priorities and initiates projects in area of broad professional expertise. Provides technical consultation on computing, software, and networking. Support provided includes modeling/simulation, data integration, management, analysis and visualization. Provides strategic planning for the direction of cyberinfrastructure and related research support services. Provides technical leadership and guidance to researchers, senior university leadership, and may serve as a principal investigator (or Co-PI) on research projects of broad scope and significance. Maintains professional contacts with other universities, research bodies, government agencies, and/or professional organizations; promotes and represents the research projects and programs of the institution on a national basis. Coordinates and serves as liaison between the various partners and research principals of the institute in the establishment and execution of research projects and programs. Maintains a broad knowledge of current and emerging trends in state-of-the-art technology, systems, and research in area of expertise. Oversees the supervision of personnel, which includes work allocation, training, promotion and enforcement of internal procedures and controls, and problem resolution; evaluates performance and makes recommendations for personnel actions; motivates employees to achieve peak productivity and performance. Establishes and implements short- and long-range organizational goals, objectives, strategic plans, policies, and operating procedures; monitors and evaluates programmatic and operational effectiveness, and effects changes required for improvement. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned. | |
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: | |
Knowledge of current and emerging technological, network, systems, and research trends in area of expertise. Knowledge of research principles, protocol, techniques, and standards for technology intensive research disciplines. Ability to plan and guide the development, deployment and maintenance of computer network systems. Knowledge of computer/network systems infrastructure requirements and standards. Knowledge of the following disciplines: Unix/Linux, Windows, Mac, storage, reporting, testing, middleware, or other software. Ability to identify and resolve computer system malfunctions and operational problems. Knowledge of computer systems, applications, procedures, and techniques. Understanding of multiple computer languages and software functionality. Ability to perform software analysis and integrate software with existing systems. | |

Minimum Qualifications: | |
Education- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Science, or related filed is required. Master's degree is preferred. | |
Experience- Five (5) years of increasingly technical leadership and management experience. | |
