Purpose of Classification:
Under minimal direction, has duties of instructing, directing, and checking the work of other web developers and web content administrators. Creates, plans, implements, and manages overall strategy for the creation, development and maintenance of the technological infrastructure necessary to manage websites. Maintain an ongoing collaboration with the campus web development community in the frameworks that meet industry and university web standards for interface design, information architecture, branding, usability, mobile design, and accessibility.
Standard Duties:
Lead researcher compiling information concerning all aspects of web site design and software. Designs user interfaces including menus and navigational tools to maximize web site usability. Designs original graphics and multi-media for web sites. Researches and implements graphical and multi-media web software and applications including text, audio, graphics, animation, video and interactive elements. Consults with and advises content providers regarding accessibility, usability and aesthetic appeal of web sites. Assists content providers in designing web pages for use by individuals with a range of visual, auditory, motor/mobility and cognitive abilities. Participates as the lead member in web site development/design projects. Researches web site development software. Develops and maintains user interfaces including menus and navigational tools to maximize web site usability and databases associated with web sites. Designs databases associated with web sites. Assists content providers in developing and maintaining web sites for use by individuals with a range of visual, auditory, motor/mobility and cognitive abilities. Implements and maintains web site architecture, programs and scripts. Participates as the lead of team member in web site development/design projects. May participate in web server hardware/software administration. May hold supervisory responsibilities as a member of a management team.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of current and emerging multi-media and/or web site development software. Knowledge of web site architecture. Knowledge of web standards and protocols including usability and accessibility standards. Knowledge of NMSU branding standards for clear, consistent, concise, and timely communication with web site audiences.
Expertise in web site development and/or design including database development and interface and navigation tool design. Expertise in researching and using new web site development/design software. Skill in designing or developing usable and accessible web sites and/or original graphics. Skill in providing consultation as a lead regarding web site design/development projects.
Ability to work with diverse team members/users. Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Ability to supervise, both direct and indirect employees acting as project manager. Ability to advise web content subject matter experts and web editors on effective web communication strategies, information architecture, usability and accessibility.
Minimum Qualifications:
   Education- Bachelor's degree in a related field.
   Experience- Five (5) years of professional, directly related experience as listed in the standard duties as outlined.
