| Purpose of Classification: | |
| Develops, plans, coordinates and manages institutional occupational health and safety programs for chemical, respiratory, vehicle, building and physical hazards to protect the health and safety of employees and the public. Advises the director on strategies and tactics relating to the technical and regulatory direction of the occupational health and safety programs and risk reduction. Develops and implements safety policies and procedures and systems to monitor, follow up and ensure compliance with local, state and federal regulations related to laboratory safety, chemical safety, general safety, construction safety, building safety, loss control and management of hazardous building materials. Researches and evaluates university safety issues and work related injury with focus on prevention. Coordinates and conducts related educational training and presentations. Oversee development and management of safety website. | |
| Standard Duties: | |
| Develops, implements and maintains programs in the areas of , risk management, occupational injury and illness prevention, general safety, construction safety, building safety, property loss control, asbestos, lead and mold hazards and ensure compliance with the University, state, and federal laws, policies, and regulations. Develops and implements strategies and preventative programs to identify and reduce risks from potential hazards in the workplace. Participates in development, implementation and maintenance of policies, objectives, short-and long-range planning; develops and implements projects and programs to assist in accomplishment of established risk management, loss prevention, and loss control goals. May propose and create new programs in areas of oversight; monitors and evaluates programmatic and operational effectiveness and effects changes required for improvement of occupational safety for trades employees, insurance claims management, university exposure survey and related risk management. Oversees the supervision of personnel which includes work allocation, training, promotion and enforcement of internal procedures and controls, and problem resolution; evaluates performance and makes recommendations for personnel actions; motivates employees to achieve peak productivity and performance. Develops and implements facilities and office employee injury prevention strategies, programs and training; monitors program effectiveness and makes adjustments as necessary. Coordinates response to and investigation of reports of hazardous or potentially hazardous building conditions or campus activities; reviews recommendations and/or takes appropriate action in order to mitigate potential safety, health and environmental risks. Coordinates safety training programs for facilities employees and vehicle safety and provides instruction in areas of expertise. Develops and maintains training records management systems. Provides for inspection and compliance of facilities operations involving hazards operations or hazardous materials to ensure compliance with all local, state and federal regulations and safety standards. Develops and maintains hazardous building materials records management systems. Advises director on technical and regulatory issues and strategic direction of the facilities trades safety and related safety programs. Keeps abreast of pending regulatory development through reference sources. Reviews safety in campus activities teaching protocols to ensure proper engineering controls, safety equipment and procedures are available. Serves as institutional safety training manager to coordinate instruction, schedules, recordkeeping, online training implementation and resolution of issues related to training and training facility. . Develops and delivers industrial safety in context of occupational safety education and training to faculty, staff and students who work with or have potential for exposure to respiratory and physical hazards, asbestos, hazardous energy, confined spaces, fall hazards, forklift and heavy equipment. Informs and educates staff, students and other constituencies regarding general safety issues and initiatives. Acts as safety web master; develops and maintains web pages including safety news. Develops and maintains databases of information related to occupational injury and illness, asbestos management, hazardous building materials, permit required confined space entry., Directs administrative support for departmental business functions, university claims management, training, recordkeeping and reports to ensure compliance with university business procedures. Represents the department to various institutional departments as well as the University, and externally to governmental agencies, the media and the community; promotes existing and new general safety and loss control programs and/or policies. Serves as Chair of University Safety Committee. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned. | |

| Minimum Qualifications: | |
| Education- Bachelor's degree in a related field. | |
| Experience- Five (5) years of professional experience directly related to the standard duties as outlined. | |
