Purpose of Classification:
Under Direct Supervision Of The Fire Chief, Plans,Organizes, Coordinates And Directs The Operations, functions, And Activities Of The Fire Prevention Program; Performs A Variety Of Administrative, Technical, And Supervisory Work Related To Fire Inspection, Prevention And Fire Code Administration And Enforcement; Assists With Developing Department Policy And Procedures And Makes Recommendations To The Fire Chief For Approval; Administers And Monitors Budgets; Ensures The Operations And Functions Of The Divisions Are In Alignment With Departmental Goals And Objectives; And Performs Other Administrative Functions As Directed By The Fire Chief. Fills In For The Fire Chief As Needed Upon His/her Temporary Absence.
Standard Duties:
Applies Local, State And Federal Fire/life Safety Regulations And Codes Within NMSU Campus. Insures Buildings Meet Current Code As Adopted By NM State Fire Marshal's Office. Reviews Building Project Plans, To Include New And Remodel Projects, For Compliance With Local, State, And Federal Fire Safety Regulations And Codes And Serves As The Authority Having Jurisdiction For Life Safety Code And Compliance Issues. Plans, Develops, And Implements Fire Prevention Procedures And Emergency Response Protocols For University Operating Units, To Include Emergency Evacuation Plans. Maintains Fire Prevention And Code Enforcement Records. Direct Supervision Of Fire Captains. Responds And Directs Fire And Emergency Response Operations. Performs Miscellaneous Job-related Duties As Assigned.

Knowledge And Understanding Of Local, State And Federal Fire/safety Regulations And Codes. Knowledge Of Building, Electrical, And Mechanical Codes. Knowledge Of Firefighting Suppression Techniques, Methods, And Command And Control Techniques. Knowledge On Radio Communications And Equipment, Public education, And Awareness Programs. Knowledge Of Related Accreditation And Certification Requirements. Knowledge Of And Skill In The Application Of Basic On-site Emergency Medical Protocols And Procedures. Knowledge Of The Use Of Emergency Medical Transport Procedures, Facilities, And Equipment. Knowledge Of Emergency Medical Equipment Maintenance Regulations And Policy Standards.
Strong Interpersonal And Communication Skills And The Ability To Work Effectively With A Wide Range Of Constituencies In A Diverse Community. Skill In Developing Fire Safety Procedures, Inspection Practices, And Protocols. Skill In Budget Preparation And Fiscal Management. Skill In Organizing Resources And Establishing Priorities. Minimum Qualifications:
   Education- Bachelor's degree in a related field.
   Experience- Three (3) Years Of Increasingly Progressive Management Experience In One Or More Areas That Report To This Position.
   Equivalency- Any equivalent combination of education and experience as approved by HR.
   Certifications/License- Fire Inspector I Certification And Ability To Obtain Fire Inspector II Within One Year (National Fire Protection Association / International Code Council / IFSAC). New Mexico EMT License, Candidate Must Be Able To Acquire A NM Class E Driver's License Within 1 Month Of Hiring.
