Purpose of Classification:
Under general supervision, consults, advises, and trains employees at all levels regarding radiation safety compliance. Audits, monitors, investigates, and reports radiation safety hazards.
Standard Duties:
Supervise, direct, delegate, and evaluate work of assigned staff. Participates in the development and implementation of university-wide radiation safety programs. Advises the university community regarding safety protocols and procedures to ensure regulatory compliance as mandated by local, state, and federal agencies, including the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), and New Mexico Environment Department (NMED). Conducts training and orientation sessions for employees to minimize potential safety hazards, including exposure to radiation. Oversees the collection, correlation, and dissemination of safety data; keeps detailed records of dose histories, bioassays, x-ray equipment, overexposures, and instrument calibrations. Responds to emergency situations involving hazardous materials, radiation, or fire and smoke incidents; prepares reports of findings and submits recommendations. Monitors and instructs medical patients receiving exposure to hazardous substances during treatment procedures. Leads and/or guides the work of lower level safety technicians and/or student employees. Perform related duties as required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Minimum Qualifications:
   Education- Bachelor's degree in a related field.
   Experience- Three (3) years of professional experience related to the standard duties as outlined.
