Purpose of Classification:
The Assistant Dean assists in the development, administration, and promotion of graduate education services. Responsible for a wide range of services supporting the educational, social, cultural and welfare needs of graduate students. Provides intervention for at-risk student populations including first-time attending, stop out, dropout, and withdraw students. Provides administration with retention reports and recommendations to increase student persistence, retention, and graduation rates. Establishes active internal and external relationships that enhance and support retention.
Standard Duties:
Oversees supervision of assigned staff which includes: work allocation, training,promotion and enforcement of internal procedures and controls and problem resolution; evaluates performance and makes recommendations for personnel actions; motivates employees to achieve peak productivity and performance. Oversee academic standing; warning status and bars on registration. Oversee applications to the Doctoral Candidacy documentation. Process petitions for graduate registration. Schedules Doctoral Final Exams. Process extension of Time Limit for courses, student Travel Awards, graduate Fellowship awards and Graduate Assistantship awards. Process new programs, minors, certificate, program name changes, Graduate school bars, scholastic status, grade changes, leave of absences and withdrawals. Responsible for Graduate Catalog and student professional development. Develops and manages annual Graduate Assistantship and Scholarship budgets and performs periodic cost and productivity analysis. Interprets and enforces University policies, procedures, state and Federal regulations. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge and understanding of principles, procedures, regulations, and standards applicable to the job. Understanding of the University's mission, vision and goals.
Short-and long-term planning, problem analysis and resolution; report preparation and presentation; interpersonal and organizational communication (both oral and written); develop and maintain effective working relationships; maintain accurate and orderly records; use independent judgment and initiative; organize and direct activities.

Minimum Qualifications:
   Education- Terminal degree in a related field.
   Experience- Five (5) years of professional experience related to the duties outlined.
