Purpose of Classification: | |
Provides psychological and counseling services of a remedial, preventive (primary & secondary), and developmental nature through direct and indirect (consultation) contacts with students, faculty, and staff individually and in-groups). Leads the University’s faculty and staff employee assistance program and services. Plans, develops, implements, and evaluates a wide range of clinical, psycho-social, and associated services to improve employee morale and productivity. Facilitates educational programs in mental health, substance abuse, and workplace communications and relationships. Provides supplemental training and supervision support for APA accredited internship site. Engages in interdisciplinary consultation and collaboration in an integrated health center. | |
Standard Duties: | |
Provides counseling, therapy, and/or psychotherapy to clients and families as appropriate to the position; prepares treatment plans, termination and client referral as appropriate; provides therapeutic crisis intervention, career counseling and emergency services as appropriate. Collects data about clients through interview, triage/intake, psychological assessments and/or observational techniques; evaluates data to identify causes of problems and to determine proper therapeutic approach or referral to other specialists. Anticipates and identifies critical, high-risk employee mental health and substance abuse issues; monitors issues such as campus violence and advises university leadership on management and prevention strategies and solutions. Develops and implements employee mental health and substance abuse education and awareness programs. Coordinates and interacts with university officials, employees, external mental health, substance abuse, and/or law enforcement agencies as necessary. Provides informed professional guidance on a wide range of employee assistance issues; consults with and advises administration and employees on programmatic topics and on governmental and legal requirements associated with employee assistance. Consults and collaborates in an integrative multidisciplinary center. Ability to develop and present educational outreach programs/workshops. Serves as an outreach liaison on EAP services and programs on main campus and branch campuses. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned. | |
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: | |
Knowledge of a full range of mental health, alcohol and substance abuse, and employee assistance theory and practice. Knowledge of organizational and career change theory and practice, and their impact on employees at all levels. Knowledge of patient evaluation and triage procedures. Knowledge of customer service standards and procedures. Knowledge of management principles and practices. Knowledge of psychological mediation and team-building principles. Knowledge of employment, labor, malpractice, mental health, and substance abuse laws, and appropriate ethical codes. Knowledge of alternative operational and program funding mechanisms. Knowledge of a full range of psycho-therapeutic assessment and treatment and crisis intervention methods and techniques. Knowledge of community mental health resources. Knowledge of crisis intervention techniques. Knowledge of case management. Knowledge and understanding of clinical counseling principles, programs and methodology. Knowledge of clinical operations and procedures. Knowledge and understanding of clinical social work and mental health counseling principles, methods, procedures, and standards. Knowledge of psychological test administration, scoring, and interpretation. Knowledge of legal and ethical issues related to patients' rights. Knowledge with supervision and training. | |

Minimum Qualifications: | |
Education- Doctorate degree in related field of Counseling or Clinical Psychology | |
Experience- Three (3) years of experience as a licensed psychologist directly related to the standard duties | |
Equivalency- None | |
Certifications/License- Must be licensed as and Psychologist in the State of NM by date of employment. | |
