Purpose of Classification:
Provides legal advice to students in sensitive civil and criminal matters; conduct workshops covering legal issues faced by undergraduate and graduate students; review contracts and policies related to student life; serve as one of two advisors to Associated Students of New Mexico State University (student government) including attending meetings and retreats; conduct workshops focused on leadership development for members of the organization.
Standard Duties:
Responsible for oversight and functioning of the Student Legal Aid Program. Responsible for Advising ASNMSU/Student Government. Responsible for Departmental Contract Processes. Responsible for Internal Leadership Training, Educational Outreach Efforts and Departmental Representation. Responsible for Professional Development/Continuing Legal Education for License Maintenance. Responsible for Departmental Reporting Efforts.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of contract documents and specifications. Knowledge of contracts and grants preparation and management. Knowledge of the principles and procedures of legal research.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
Ability to conduct complex legal research. Ability to create, compose and edit legal opinions and other written materials. Ability to investigate and analyze information and draw conclusions. Ability to foster a cooperative work environment.
Minimum Qualifications:
   Education- Doctorate degree in related field.
   Experience- No previous work experience required.
   Equivalency- None
   Certifications/License- Possession of a Public Employee Limited License issued by the NM Supreme Court.
