Purpose of Classification:
The Dean of Students is responsible for the administration and promotion of the Office of the Dean of Students and its programs ensuring high quality services. The Dean of Students provides academic and educational leadership to the staff members, students and system-wide colleagues and is responsible for developing an active learning community among students on campus.
Standard Duties:
Serve as leader, administrator, and evaluator of the Office of the Dean of Students and the programs it encompasses (ASNMSU-Student Government, Judicial Services, Campus Activities, Student Accessibility Services and Counseling). Provide leadership to support retention initiatives. Provides leadership to support student development and personal wellness initiatives. Promote academic achievement and student satisfaction consistent with established education objectives, quality standards and fiscal responsibility. Supervise and evaluate assigned personnel. Responsible for development and/or administration of budgets in areas of supervision. Seeks and pursues/motivates others to pursue potential sources of funding for the Office of the Dean of Students. Serve as liaison between the Office of the Dean of Students and the university community, community agencies, businesses and other groups, advisory committees, state and national groups. Ensure compliance with regulatory, corporate and Department of Education regulations. Reports directly to the Vice President for Student Success.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Understanding of the University's mission, vision and goals. Experience in providing budgetary oversight and management. Knowledge of program evaluation. Knowledge of Title IX.
Excellent oral and written communication and problem solving skills, including skills in conflict mediation and responding to ideas and concerns of students, faculty and staff.
Proven ability to lead staff, students, and campus colleagues in engaging and guiding students in campus life outside of the classroom. Experience in respectfully and effectively working with students, staff, and colleagues from diverse backgrounds and experiences. Demonstrated ability to maintain a high degree of personal and departmental integrity and openness with students and staff. Demonstrated ability to administer in a fair and thoughtful way. Collect, analyze and use data to make informed decisions.
Minimum Qualifications:
   Education- Master's degree in a related field.
   Experience- Seven (7) years of professional experience directly related to the standard duties as outlined.
