Purpose of Classification:
Directs the provision of the counseling center for students.
Standard Duties:
Supervises, directs, delegates, and evaluates work of assigned staff. Oversee the training and supervision of all clinical in counseling including professionals, pre-doctoral interns, doctoral practicum students and master's practicum students who all provide direct clinical service to students. Provide clinical services to those students who need greater expertise or who are at greater risk of harm to self or others or those who present complicated issues that require close oversight and monitoring. Design and manage all programs delivered by the multiple units and directly supervise all counseling staff and the coordinators of various programs. Oversee the research being conducted in the department; create a range of programs that efficiently meet changing student and campus needs. Work with each area coordinator as well as the administrative assistant and the Dean of Students to create appropriate budgets and funding sources, through securing outside grants funds, obtaining support from student fees, or demonstrating need for an expanded I & G budget. Director presence is required in times of student deaths or crisis, to work with a range of media, state and local, print and broadcast, to communicate professional and university perspectives; deals with significant criticism of the university position and this must be dealt with sensitivity. Counseling and Student Development must work very closely with other campus units such as housing and student health to coordinate and provide the best services. All service units are required to be evaluated annually through outcome and customer satisfaction measures. Develop and assess student learning outcomes. Perform related duties as required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
University and department policies and procedures; principles and practice of organization and administration; principles of supervision, training, and performance evaluation;
Short- and long-range planning; problem analysis and resolution; report preparation and presentation; public contact and relations; oral and written communications;
Direct, evaluate, train, and supervise the work of assigned personnel; develop and maintain effective working relationships; maintain accurate and orderly records; use independent judgment and initiative; organize and direct activities; analyze and evaluate information; ability to oversee nearly 10,000 square ft. of space in various campus buildings and manage numerous employees from highly trained professionals to peer educators and student workers; be qualified to provide clinical supervision at the highest level and to make complicated clinical decisions that have life and death consequences for students.
Minimum Qualifications:
   Education- Master's degree in related field.
   Experience- Five (5) years of professional experience related to the standard duties as outlined.
   Equivalency- Must be or be eligible to become licensed as a Mental Health Counselor within 6 months to a year after hire.
   Certifications/License- Licensed as a Mental Health Counselor
