Purpose of Classification:
Reports Directly to the VP for Student Success, serves on the Leadership Team of the VP for Student Success and provides administrative support to the VP for Student Success. Builds and supports collaborative diversity and student outreach programs among NMSU colleges, community colleges, and ASNMSU.
Standard Duties:
Oversees NMSU's student diversity and student outreach efforts. Supervises NMSU's American Indian Programs, Black Programs and Chicano Programs and NMSU's Sexual and Gender Diversity Resource Center. Assists with leadership efforts in expanding and integrating NMSU's campus-based diversity and student outreach programs. Identifies and catalogues a summary of NMSU's diversity programs annually. Develops a communication plan to market the Office of Student Diversity and Student Outreach. Initiates internal conversations in order to increase involvement of NMSU's faculty, staff, students, and alumni in student diversity and outreach opportunities in New Mexico. Advises and assists with the student appeal process, and advises the VP for Student Success on administrative and legal matters as directed. Responds to correspondence, requests for information, complaints or inquiries pertaining to the Office of Student Diversity and Student Outreach. Prepares highly confidential and complex correspondence, reports, and other materials. Oversees the supervision of personnel to include: work allocation, training, promotion and enforcement of internal procedures and controls and problem resolution; evaluates performance and makes recommendations for personnel actions; motivates employees to achieve peak productivity and performance .Works closely with the VP for Student Success and VP for University Advancement to create a Development Plan and case statement for the Division of Student Success, with special emphasis on the ethnic programs and the Sexual and Gender Diversity Resource Center. Researches and reviews news items to keep the VP for Student Success abreast of matters impacting NMSU's student diversity and outreach activities. Represents the VP for Student Success in meetings, conferences, committees, and other functions with individuals and groups. Serves as VPSS liaison to NMSU's Diversity Council. and on committees. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge and experience with adult and non-traditional education.
Skills in communication, leadership, short- and long-term planning, organizing diverse groups, problem analysis and resolution; public relations.
Ability to direct, evaluate, train and supervise the work of assigned personnel; communicate effectively in written and oral form; develop and maintain effective working relationships; maintain accurate and orderly records; use independent judgment and initiative; organize and direct several activities; handle political and confidential matters of significant importance to the Office Of Diversity and Student Outreach in a sensitive and professional manner; assess and resolve problems; meet deadlines; and be flexible to changing situations.
Minimum Qualifications:
   Education- Bachelor's degree in a related field.
   Experience- Eight (8) years of professional experience related to the standard duties as outlined.
