Purpose of Classification:
Under minimal supervision, responsible for direction of counseling programs, cultural affairs, and remedial and support programs. Also invites minority speakers to campus. In addition, may be responsible for minority housing and intercultural centers.
Standard Duties:
Develop programs, communications, and strategies to promote diversity & assess the outcomes of those initiatives with a particular focus on their impact as related to student recruitment & retention. Advocate for & mentor multicultural students. Assist with preparation of academic scholarship, career development, & advanced study opportunities for students. Facilitate access to university resources & service offices. Serve as a liaison for students on issues of race, ethnicity & current multicultural issues. Monitor academic progress of multicultural students who are on academic probation & assist them in accessing intervention & academic assistance services. Assist new multicultural students with making a successful transition to college. Assist in planning, implementing & analyzing efforts to increase diversity among the student body, faculty & staff. Plan & implement events and programs. Sit on campus wide committees that target undergraduate recruitment. Counsel applicants on the admissions process & opportunities at the University. Coordinate & contribute to the success of various student visit programs designed to recruit targeted applicants to the University.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of academic requirements and admissions policies and procedures. Demonstrated commitment to intercultural competence and strong record of barrier removal and inclusion.
Exemplary communication, organization, presentation and leadership skills with an ability to work independently and as a member of a team. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Strong skills and experience in conflict resolution and management. Strong planning and organizational skills.
Ability to work effectively with university and school leadership, faculty, residents, students and the community that reflects diversity and inclusiveness. Ability to establish and maintain a rapport with current and prospective students. Ability to listen, synthesize information, build relationships with a wide range of constituencies, and influence key stakeholders.
Minimum Qualifications:
   Education- Bachelor's degree in a related field.
   Experience- Two (2) years' experience in student affairs in a higher education setting
   Equivalency- None
