Purpose of Classification: | |
Provides personal and financial aid application counseling to students and parents. Assists in the administration of the financial aid program. Makes decisions to award funds to students eligible for scholarships, grants, and college work-study. Responsible for auditing and reconciling financial aid accounts and packaging financial aid awards. | |
Standard Duties: | |
Provides advice and counsel about available financial aid opportunities, eligibility requirements and the application process to students and parents; analyzes and evaluates financial aid eligibility for students. Exercises professional judgment to determine if adjustments should be made; makes award adjustments and recalculations on less complex cases, as appropriate. Presides over the collection, management and reporting of data in accordance with the objectives of the position; participates in the development and implementation of departmental procedures, as appropriate. Conducts student orientations, entrance and exit interviews in accordance with federal, university and agency guidelines. Reviews loan related financial documents for accuracy and provides signature approval/disapproval. Responds to inquiries by researching and resolving problems related to transactions handled by the department; serves as liaison with other departments in the resolution of day-to-day administrative or operational issues; provides crisis intervention referrals, as appropriate. Coordinates one or more specific administrative programs or service areas, as assigned. Participates in the review and adjudication of appeals for scholarships and academic progress. May oversee activities of staff and/or student support. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned. | |
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: | |
Knowledge of customer service standards and procedures. Knowledge of federal and state laws, regulations, and policies pertaining to the provision of student financial aid. Knowledge of financial aid policies, procedures, and eligibility requirements. | |
Interviewing skills. Skill in the use of personal computers and related software applications. Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community. | |
Ability to analyze and solve problems. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Ability to lead and functionally supervise staff. Ability to make evaluative judgments. Ability to present educational programs, workshops and/or orientations. | |
Minimum Qualifications: | |
Education- Bachelor's degree in a related field. | |
Experience- No previous work experience required. | |
