Purpose of Classification:
Collects, reviews and attempts to complete a file for every Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), for the NMSU system, in compliance with federal Title IV financial aid process, procedures, and eligibility requirements.
Standard Duties:
NMSU campus reviews, verifies, and assesses applications and support documents in accordance with established guidelines to determine financial aid eligibility. Performs outreach efforts to current and potential students for the purpose of collecting missing or deficient information related to the submitted application. Maintains database of applications and other information received and prepares routine statistical reports and correspondence. Sets up files on aid claimants and maintains demographic data, as appropriate. Responds to student, prospective student and family inquiries. Researches and resolves problems related to aid application transactions. Scans documentation into Banner Document Management System and disposes of originals, in compliance with State of New Mexico and federal Records Management Retention regulations. Discusses status of application issues, internal processes and implementation of regulatory changes with advisors, Associate Directors, financial aid staff located at the department/community college level, and University Admissions staff. Performs miscellaneous other job-related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of Financial Aid policies and student eligibility requirements.
Database management, records maintenance, word processing and data entry. Presentation to small and large groups for the purpose of training departmental financial aid staff within the system
Ability to provide excellent customer service, communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Ability to make administrative/procedural decisions and judgments. Ability to gather data, compile information, and prepare reports, perform complex tasks and prioritize multiple projects, organize resources and establish priorities. Ability to complete moderately complex administrative paperwork with little supervision.
Minimum Qualifications:
   Education- High School diploma or GED certificate
   Experience- Three (3) year of experience related to the standard duties as outlined.
   Equivalency- Completion of a post-secondary degree or certificate may substitute for years of experience.
