Purpose of Classification:
Under general supervision, provides intermediate level signing, transliteration, and interpretation services to university students, faculty, and/or staff, as appropriate, using both American Sign Language and signed English modalities. Works on an on-call basis as required or as scheduled.
Standard Duties:
Translates spoken material into sign language for students, faculty, and/or staff, under a range of circumstances, to include classroom sessions, meetings, telephone calls, colloquia, and other related occasions. Interprets and transliterates both American Sign Language and signed English into oral or written language as appropriate. Demonstrates good receptive skills in both ASL and signed English, and the ability to communicate no less than 70% of information and materials presented. Provides direction and integrative coordination in the planning, development, and implementation of a comprehensive University program. Performs related clerical, administrative, and/or recordkeeping activities as specifically directed. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge and understanding of the principles of ethical behavior set by the National Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf.
Clerical, administrative, and recordkeeping skills.
Ability to legibly present sign language to clientele. Ability to interpret and transliterate signed language into both oral and written English. Ability to understand and communicate signed language at an intermediate level, using both American Sign Language and signed English.
Minimum Qualifications:
   Education- High School diploma or GED certificate.
   Experience- One (1) year of experience directly related to the standard duties as outlined.
   Equivalency- Completion of a post-secondary degree or certificate may substitute for years of experience.
   Certifications/License- RID CI or CT Certification and/or NMQA Level 4
