Purpose of Classification:
Under general supervision, in addition to the responsibilities of Electronics Technician - Associate provides routine support and tests and diagnoses. Prepares materials, components, and assemblies for evaluation. Interprets engineering change orders, blueprints, diagrams, sketches, photographs, or other process and product documentation as they relate to assigned duties. Participates in the development of process control manuals/documentation. Provides training to quality production operators.
Standard Duties:
Performs independently in the troubleshooting, repair and maintenance of electronic equipment; performs modifications according to engineering specifications; decides priority of repair. Fabricates, tests, and installs experimental circuitry or completes prototype model according to engineering instructions and technical manuals; Assists in the layout and design, fabrication, testing and installation of AC and DC circuits such as power supplies; sets specifications; determines method, considering factors such as cost, time and labor; Coordinates with faculty, researchers and/or engineers regarding design requirements and application of electronic research equipment;Serves as a technical resource to production personnel and provides technical assistance to faculty, staff and students in the operation of equipment and in the purchase of electronic equipment and supplies; Develops or directs the set-up of test equipment and the appropriate testing of new or experimental equipment; analyzes performance and reliability and summarizes the results;Works cooperatively with other personnel to exchange information and resolve problems. Maintains labor and material cost records and requisitions materials, supplies and equipment; Develops product documentation as needed; Coordinates the activities of subordinates and may supervise lower level staff or students. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of engineering electronic principles and theory. Knowledge of the tools, equipment and materials used in electronic testing, fabrication, repair and maintenance.
Skill in reading electronic schematics and wiring diagrams to perform testing and troubleshooting of circuits; Skill in detecting defects in electronic equipment. Skill in the use and care of tools and equipment used in the work. Skill in keeping detailed records for documentation purposes.
Ability to effectively communicate. The ability to tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong.
Minimum Qualifications:
   Education- Vocational/Technical certificate or an associate's degree.
   Experience- Three (3) years of experience related to the standard duties as outlined.
   Equivalency- Any equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience as approved by Human Resource Services.
