Purpose of Classification:
Performs work that involves conventional types of plans, investigations, surveys, structures or equipment with relatively few complex features for which there are precedents. Assignments usually include one or more of the following: equipment design/development, materials testing, specifications preparation, process study, research investigations and/or report preparation. Activities require knowledge of principles/techniques commonly employed in the specific narrow scope or area of assignments.
Standard Duties:
Designs and implements research protocols and projects; evaluates findings to develop new concepts, products, equipment, or processes. Applies advanced analytical techniques and the modification and extension of theories and practices in innovative research projects in field of specialty;develops statistical and observational models. Applies diversified knowledge of engineering research, principles, practices, and protocols in research projects;may make recommendations which serve as the basis for decision making in a specialty area. Makes independent decisions requiring the application of advanced research techniques and the modification and extension of theories, precepts, and practices in the field of engineering. Operates and maintains sophisticated equipment to conduct research, analyze data and report research findings;may instruct others in use of equipment. Collaborates with users and principal investigators on design, analysis,application, and reporting of research projects; teaches and advises on techniques. Carries out complex or novel assignments requiring the development of new and improved techniques as an individual researcher. Maintains currency of knowledge with respect to relevant state-of-the-art technology, equipment, and/or systems. Requisitions components and supplies for engineering projects, interacting with vendors to obtain price and product information. Coordinates with other project group members and supervisor on engineering design problems. Performs research relating to each specific project; writes documentation and manuals. Trains faculty, staff and students in the operation of equipment. May manage or oversee a research lab. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science, technology, principles, and procedures. Knowledge of design applications and techniques. Knowledge of equipment and systems appropriate to related discipline.
Skill in applying engineering principles and procedures. Skill in engineering design, techniques, tools and principles involved in production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models.
Ability to effectively communicate. Ability to identify complex problems and review related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.
Minimum Qualifications:
   Education- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.
   Experience- Two (2) years of professional experience related to the standard duties as outlined.
