Purpose of Classification:
Position working in conjunction with experienced meteorologists and atmospheric scientists to become fully qualified to work independently to support meteorological sensor array instrumentation installation, data retrieval, and data analysis.
Standard Duties:
Performs meteorological instrumentation installation, setup, configuration, and maintenance of meteorological towers and meteorological sensor instrumentation. Performs meteorological support, including observations and meteorological data retrieval from meteorological sensors while supporting remote and local operations and projects. Perform analysis of meteorological data and issue report logs; analyzes post-project weather data. Prepares and presents weather briefings to project teams and visiting science groups while supporting remote and localoperations and projects. Prepares climatologically studies for project planning purposes and remote site selection as required. Provides daily weather forecasts for general planning purposes for projects and operations as required. Writes scripts and software, as needed, and stays abreast of current forecasting techniques to improve technical capabilities of meteorological test projects meteorological test projects. Perform related duties as required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
University and department policies and procedures; principles and practices of organization and administration; knowledge, and experience with meteorological sensor instrumentation and deployment, data loggers, data collection, logger configuration and programming, tower instrumentation, and meteorological sensor data analysis; computer operations and programming; principles of mathematics and statistics used in applied meteorology.
Short-and long-range planning; problem analysis and resolution; report preparation and presentation; public contact and relations; oral and written communication; developing accurate meteorological observation data; scheduling techniques; report preparation and presentation; public contact and relations; research methods; problem analysis and resolution.
Direct, evaluate, train, and supervise the work of assigned personnel, if applicable; develop and maintain effective working relationships; maintain accurate and orderly records; use independent judgment and initiative; organize and direct activities; analyze and evaluate information; work on an irregular schedule; organize and evaluate information; operate a computer.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education- Associate's degree in a related field.
Experience- Two (2) years of experience directly related to the standard duties as outlined.
