Purpose of Classification:
Work involves research, development, and evaluation of design criteria, methods, processes, instrumentation, and equipment for water management, energy conservation, environmental structure, waste management, and the production, harvesting, handling, and processing of food and fiber.
Standard Duties:
Conducts research on assigned subject in an appropriate area of engineering. Participates in literature searches. Prepares budget estimates and recommendations for equipment and supplies. Directs the work of research technicians and other staff. Develops procedures, devices, and facilities to conduct a specific study. Supervises and assists in construction of devices and facilities. Supervises the collection of data. Evaluates data by statistical methods. Assists in the publication of scientific reports, articles, and bulletins on research results. Performs related tasks as required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Comprehensive knowledge of engineering, scientific, and/or mathematical concepts and theories in area of specialty. Knowledge of a wide range of engineering and/or scientific research principles, practices, and protocols. Knowledge of contracts and grants preparation and management. Knowledge of current technological developments/trends in area of expertise. Knowledge of management principles and practices.
Skill in educating others in research methods and techniques in area of expertise. Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
Ability to conduct systematic analysis and develop solutions to complex scientific and/or engineering problems. Ability to develop and deliver presentations. Ability to develop scientific reports and manuscripts based on original research. Ability to plan, develop, and coordinate multiple projects. Ability to provide technical guidance and leadership to professional personnel in area of expertise. Ability to use independent judgment to develop model concepts and approaches for research. Ability to utilize advanced computer statistical and technical applications.
Minimum Qualifications:
   Education- Doctorate degree in Engineering.
   Experience- Eight (8) years of professional experience directly related to the standard duties as outlined.
