Purpose of Classification:
Provides overall administration of the Physical Science Laboratory. Prepare strategic directions, policies, fiscal oversight, personnel management oversight.
Standard Duties:
Provides leadership and direction in all aspects of administering the Physical Science Laboratory including strategic planning and customer focused programs. Establishes and implements short- and long-range organizational goals, objectives, strategic plans, policies, and operating procedures; monitors and evaluates programmatic and operational effectiveness, and effects changes required for improvement. Designs, establishes, and maintains staffing and an organizational structure to effectively accomplish the department function; recruits, employs, supervises and evaluates departmental staff; directs the implementation of management development. Develops and manages annual budgets for the organization and performs periodic cost and productivity analyses. Recommends and participates in the development of university policies and procedures. Represents the University to various institutional divisions as well as externally to governmental agencies, vendors, and the general public. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of customer service standards and procedures. Knowledge of organizational structure, workflow, and operating procedures. Knowledge of financial/business analysis techniques. Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with the management of a research laboratory.
Skill in budget preparation and fiscal management. Skill in organizing resources and establishing priorities. Skill in examining and re-engineering operations and procedures, formulating policy, and developing and implementing new strategies and procedures. Demonstrated excellent professional communication and marketing leadership skills. Minimum Qualifications:
   Education- Bachelor's degree in a related field.
   Experience- Twelve (12) years of increasingly progressive management experience in one or more areas that report to this position.
