Purpose of Classification:
Under indirect supervision, provides planning, development, implementation, and central coordination for programs and activities that span academic, research, and outreach programs across the College. Establishes and implements short- and long-range goals, objectives, policies and operating procedures; monitors and evaluates operational effectiveness, effects changes required for improvement; develops and implements systems and processes to establish and maintain records; develops and manages associated program budgets. Provides assistance and representation as appropriate in communicating with internal and external constituents of the College. Determines appropriate course of action, referral or response to issues, requests and queries, including those of sensitive and confidential nature, on behalf of the Dean. May serve on department and college planning and policymaking committees. May represent the college to various institutional divisions as well as external entities.
Standard Duties:
Serves as a member of the Dean’s leadership team, reporting directly to and providing executive-level support to the Dean. Under indirect supervision, provides oversight and management and central coordination of operational, administrative and financial matters affecting a broad set of integrated programs and projects in support of the overall mission of the College. Manage work scope, provide program planning, budgeting and administration, and develop related operational policies and procedures as necessary. Serve as a principal point of contact between the dean and internal and external constituencies. Manage requests, queries, issues and concerns addressed to the Dean, for initial determination of follow-up by the Dean and/or Associate Deans. Manage, direct and implement external communications on behalf of the College, including print, digital, and social media, and public relations efforts. Provide public relations and constituent service support for internal communication of college-level initiatives among faculty and staff. Develops, directs, and manages college-wide communications program targeted at both internal and external audiences. Assigns and reviews assignments news and marketing pieces, both print and electronic, about College programs, policies and success stories. Writes news stories about a wide variety of subjects, including complex, technical pieces. Collaborates with University Communications on news development and dissemination, including university-wide communication initiatives. Assists in arrangements for, and media coverage of, special events and scheduled activities. Directs, manages, and oversees daily administrative components of the Dean’s office functions. Recommends and/or participates in the development of internal operational policies and procedures. Provides oversight for staffing of Dean’s office to effectively accomplish the program/project function. Supervises administrative support personnel, including but not limited to: work allocation, training, enforcement of internal procedures and controls, and problem resolution; evaluates performance and makes recommendations for personnel actions; motivates employees to achieve peak productivity and performance. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of journalism, writing, interviewing, public relations and marketing theory, concepts, methods and writing techniques. Proficient use of advanced English writing and editing, preferably with technical subjects. Ability to manage multiple project deadlines and set work priorities for multiple project deadlines.
Skill in the use of computers, preferably in a PC, Windows-based operating environment. Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community. Skill in budget preparation and fiscal management. Program planning and implementation skills. Skill in organizing resources and establishing priorities. Skill in examining and re-engineering operations and procedures, formulating policy, and developing and implementing new strategies and procedures.
Ability to examine existing operations and procedures, formulate policy, and develop and implement new strategies. Ability to develop and maintain recordkeeping systems and procedures. Ability to gather data, compile information, analyze data and prepare reports. Ability to exercise leadership, independent judgment and initiative, problem analysis and resolution and to make administrative/procedural decisions. Minimum Qualifications:
   Education- Bachelor's degree in a related field.
   Experience- Five (5) years of professional experience related to the standard duties as outlined.
