Purpose of Classification: | |
Under general supervision responsible paraprofessional work an education program. Performs duties that are instructional in nature or deliver direct services to students or parents. Serve in a position for which a teacher or another professional has ultimate responsibility for the design and implementation of educational programs and services. | |
Standard Duties: | |
Plans, organizes, schedules and conducts classes for youth and/or adults. May supervise indoor and outdoor activities of children; assist in feeding children; assists in planning and scheduling programs; may make referral reports; may organize and participate in various activities related to the educational program; attends staff meetings, in-service training sessions and other work related functions as necessary; May direct children in eating, resting and toileting; may be responsible for the care of infants; assists in keeping areas tidy; maintains discipline and guidance; may assist in keeping accounting and other records; assists with teacher/parent conferences; may administer pre and post assessments; may deal with student/parent concerns; may record behavior; may monitor records; performs related work as assigned. | |
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: | |
Knowledge of techniques and procedures required in teaching techniques and skills. | |
Communication and basic teaching skills | |
Ability to establish and maintain a congenial working relationship with children, associates and the public; follow oral and written instructions; establish effective relationships as a teacher; work in a self-contained or team teaching situation; supervise subordinates; deal with children one-on-one and in groups. | |
Minimum Qualifications: | |
Education- Associate's degree in a related field | |
Experience- None | |
Equivalency- Any equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience as approved by Human Resource Services. | |
Certifications/License- DonaAna Headstart Qualifications: Associate's degree in Child Development or closely related field, or Certification (CDC or CDA) plus 2 years of directly related experience. | |
