Purpose of Classification:
Manages Cooperative Extension Service programming in New Mexico counties in the broad area of Agricultural and Family and Consumer Sciences. Using evidence-based curriculum and educational strategies, delivers education, provides leadership and guidance related to specific programs. Conducts needs assessment, articulates a plan to address needs, and provides guidance to para-professional staff in order to deliver effective education. Collects data and evaluates programming according to established criteria, best practice and/or program guidance.
Standard Duties:
Manages and coordinates the development, implementation, and execution of a CES program, designed to achieve the overall mission, goals, and objectives of the program. Provides educational leadership and guidance to Extension educational programs in health-related areas. Develop regular and effective communications and working relationships with colleagues, partners and stakeholders within the community. Quantify, communicate and promote the value of Extension education to key stakeholders, partners and decision-makers. Provides timely reports and program plans as required. Performs other miscellaneous duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Demonstrated professional knowledge and operational expertise in the areas nutrition, diabetes, family health, chronic disease, fitness and physical activity, human resource management, operating within budgetary constraints, program evaluation and needs assessment. Must be able to align daily activities with grant objectives, including accountability, program effectiveness, and program goals. Knowledge of Extension and Extension programs.
Program planning, development, implementation, mentorship, and leadership skills. Skill in examining and evaluating operations and developing and/or re-engineering operating strategies, systems, and procedures. Strong human resource management skills including hiring, interviewing, evaluating, and supervising employees/students within the NMSU system. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of individuals and constituencies in a diverse community.
Ability to relate effectively to people of all ages, income, educational levels and ethnic backgrounds and to provide educational programs (using specified curricula) to meet their needs. Ability to provide leadership role in management and supervision of staff and the facilitation of learning.
Minimum Qualifications:
   Education- Master’s degree in a related field ( i.e. Nutrition, Public Health, Kinesiology, or similar field of study).
   Experience- No previous work experience required.
