Purpose of Classification:
Under minimal supervision perform a variety of routine instructional functions for classroom, clinical, or laboratory settings.
Standard Duties:
Perform or schedule preventative maintenance/repair of dental and dental laboratory and related equipment. Assure all equipment is working properly prior to use. Duties usually consist of supervising labs, training and supervising students in respective duties and ensuring students safely conduct themselves in such situations. Assist students in use of equipment. Implement infection control protocols including laundry, bio-hazardous waste, waste management, and sterilization following OSHA established procedures. Establish and maintain inventory of supplies, equipment, chemicals and materials. Assist students with patient care procedures and situations – charting, radiographs, sterilization, oral health care procedures. Inventory and maintain emergency response cart – including medications (AED, Glucometer, Sao2, etc.). Assist in implementation and monitoring of program policies and procedures, and HIPPA, FERPA and OSHA regulations. Assist in the management of medical and dental emergencies.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of experimental procedures, protocols, and preparation techniques within area of specialty; Knowledge of related accreditation and certification requirements; Knowledge of cleaning specifications of various lab equipment, clinical equipment, fixtures and related materials.
Skill in providing guidance and instruction in laboratory protocols and in the safe use of laboratory equipment.
Ability to follow routine verbal or written instructions; Ability to set up, calibrate, operate, and maintain standard laboratory and test equipment; Ability to maintain quality, safety, and/or infection control standards.
Minimum Qualifications:
   Education- Graduate of an accredited dental assisting or dental hygiene program.
   Experience- One year of experience.
   Equivalency- Three years of full-time experience (6,000 hours) as a dental assistant or dental hygienist
   Certifications/License- Certification in radiology (RHS) for Dental Assisting National Board (DANB) and New Mexico Board Of Dental Health Care (NMBODHC); or, RDH licensed with NMBODHC. CPR Certification from American Red Cross.
