| Purpose of Classification: | |
| Responsible for the pre-flight preparations; works closely with external and internal pilots on checkout of aircraft, trains other team members and cross-training on other UAS team positions and provides support for business development. Maintains the UAV system including performing inspections of the aircraft, maintaining ground equipment, performing electronic maintenance on the system. Develops procedures for maintenance and performs and certifies all repairs on the aircraft. | |
| Standard Duties: | |
| Oversees the supervision of personnel which includes; work allocation, training, promotion and enforcement of internal procedures and controls and problem resolution; evaluates performance and makes recommendations for personnel actions; motivates employees to achieve peak productivity and performance. Leads and manages UAV training and operations; performs physical set-up, breakdown and pack-up of entire Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) system and design. Executes,within the context of the planned UAV operations, user requirements and academic programs. The Airframe and Powerplant mechanic is responsible for maintaining the UAV system including performing inspections of the aircraft, maintaining ground equipment and performing electronic maintenance on the system. Performs job-related duties as assigned. | |
| Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: | |
| Must have specialized training in UAS maintenance and operations and knowledge of UAS operations, requirements and restrictions of flying in U.S Airspace. Must be able to identify and coordinate logistics and aircraft support requirements. | |
| Short- and long-range planning; problem analysis and resolution. Draft procedures and checklists for the maintenance associated phases of the operation. Coordinate aircraft related ground operations to support flight schedule requirements including: airframe, engine, UA systems, payloads, flight preparation, post flight requirements, aircraft systems documentation and UAV system support equipment preparations/deployment. | |
| Develop and maintain effective working relationships; maintain accurate and orderly records; use independent judgment and initiative; organize and direct activities; analyze and evaluate information. Identify and coordinate logistics and aircraft support requirements. Demonstrate ability to operate as part of a team to achieve objectives and goals. Interact with each team member in planning, developing procedures, plans and concepts for each new UAV or change. | |
| Minimum Qualifications: | |
| Education- High School diploma or GED certificate. | |
| Experience- Five (5) years of experience directly related to the standard duties as outlined. | |
| Equivalency- Completion of a post-secondary degree or certificate may substitute for years of experience. | |
| Certifications/License- Must have FAA certification as "Airframe and Power plant Mechanic". | |
