Purpose of Classification:
Delivers educational programs within a defined subject matter specific to the areas and objectives of international programs.
Standard Duties:
Develops curriculum for regular and special programs within the Center for English Language Programs (CELP) at New Mexico State University. Prepare instructional materials to meet students’ varying learning styles and language abilities, instruct students up to 15 contact hours per week using various teaching methods, and plan and conduct activities for a balanced program of instruction. Establish clear goals and objectives for each lesson and class and communicate those directly to students. Maintain accurate and complete student records; implement all policies and procedures of CELP; attend regular faculty meetings; participate in orientation-week events such as testing and placement, advising, and registration; maintain regular office hours; participate in the tutoring lab weekly; participate in one extra-curricular cultural activity per 8 week session; maintain membership on one of the CELP committees; and participate in closing week activities such as advising, testing, conferences, and closing ceremonies. Performs miscellaneous job related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Extensive knowledge of specific class being taught and use of related class materials and/or equipment.
Records maintenance skills. Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to provide positive customer service. Ability to provide a welcoming, inclusive environment for all participants. Ability to communicate in English, both orally and in writing.
Minimum Qualifications:
   Education- Masters degree in a related field, Masters degree in TESOL or closely related discipline with TESOL Certification
   Experience- One year of college/post-secondary teaching experience with international students, University English Language learners, and/or university-based IEP.
   Equivalency- Any equivalent combination of education and experience as approved by Human Resource Services
