| Purpose of Classification: | |
| Supervise observing operation staff. Direct observing activities and oversee safety of: people and equipment. Ensure reliable and cost effective "on-sky" operations and good data quality through effectively leadership and technical guidance. Interact with the Site Operational Manager and PIs of survey projects outside of the Observatory on data quality, observing strategies, operational safety, and science-driven interests in pushing performance of systems. Assist with planning, developing, and implementing of further projects (grants). Take advantages of international collaboration network to conducts astronomical research. | |
| Standard Duties: | |
| Supervise Support Astronomers and Telescope Operation Specialists: scheduling observing staff; directing and evaluating performances; providing professional development guidance; approving travel and other expenses. Organize and direct technical staff and night operation personnel to best utilize their skills and talents. Ensure people and equipment safety during night operations. Monitor observing operations and react on issues. Develop and implement operation procedures. Be the first contact point for operation problems during observing. Plan, develop, and implement engineering tasks. Work with engineers, scientists inside and outside of the Observatory in designing, developing, and implementing procedures and tools to improve observing operations. Perform science observing and research with facilities. Collaborate with the international collaboration network in astronomical research projects. Involve in designing, planning, and implementing further projects, grants. | |
| Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: | |
| University and Department policies and procedures; Principles and practices of organization and administration; Astronomical telescopes and instrumentation; Astronomical observational strategies; Astronomical research. | |

| Minimum Qualifications: | |
| Education- Doctorate degree in related field | |
| Experience- Seven (7) years of professional hands-on experience in modern astronomical telescopes, instruments, and data analyses. | |
