Purpose of Classification:
To perform scientific service or technical, investigative and regulatory work in a veterinary diagnostic laboratory environment.
Standard Duties:
Knowledge and ability to interact and assist laboratory director in laboratory operations; ability to assist in development and implementation of laboratory policies; ability to function as assistant laboratory director as needed. Train, supervise, direct, delegate, and evaluate work of assigned staff. Recognize/design/create/implement new test procedures to fulfill laboratory needs. Perform scientific, diagnostic, and analytical functions in a laboratory environment. Assist pathologists and other laboratory personnel in the diagnosis of disease in animals. Diagnose disease in animals. Assist in necropsy procedures. Investigate disease outbreaks. Interpret and report results to supervisors, referring veterinarians, and animal owners. Plan research projects, write research proposals and protocols, present and/or publish results. Provide information on animal disease to other state and federal agencies.Assure compliance with government policies, programs, regulations, and accrediting organizations or authority. Working knowledge of the World Organization of Animal Health (WOAH) quality system policies and procedures. Recognized within veterinary profession and agriculture industry as a bona fide expert on animal disease. Provide NMDA and Secretary of Agriculture with current and accurate information relative to activities affecting agriculture. Perform related duties as required
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Direct, evaluate, train, and supervise the work of assigned personnel; develop and maintain effective working relationships; maintain accurate and orderly records; use independent judgment and initiative; organize and direct activities; analyze and evaluate information.
Minimum Qualifications:
   Education- Doctorate degree in related field.
   Experience- Four (4) years of professional experience directly related to the standard duties as outlined.
   Equivalency- None
   Certifications/License- Certified or ability to be certified by U.S. Department of AgricultureBoard eligible or board certified in appropriate discipline
