Purpose of Classification:
Works in cooperation with the United States Department of Agriculture Wildlife Services (WS) Program, Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service. Focus is wildlife management and use of control techniques aimed at controlling wildlife damage,when they conflict with man's economic interest, health or safety. Efforts are primarily concerned with Wildlife Services operations related to the cessation, alleviation or mitigation of problems created by carnivores, rodents, birds and other predatory animals in urban or rural environments.
Standard Duties:
Under supervision performs work that is varied and may be somewhat difficult in character, but usually involves limited responsibility. Member of the WS workforce engaged in animal damage control operations. Possesses knowledge of devices, chemicals, tools, firearms and related equipment utilized in animal and bird damage control operations. Prepares baits and constructs or sets devices, lures, traps, etc., in accordance with standard operational procedures. Responsible for, and may instruct others in the maintenance, repair and safekeeping of tools, supplies and equipment. When using M-44 or other toxic materials, must maintain records pursuant to the State Pesticide statutes and regulations and Environmental Protection Agency use restrictions. Must be able to identify predator or rodent species by sight, sound, tracks, type of depredation or damage present, examine other appropriate evidence, and identify such damage situations and relate them to the depredating species. May instruct and conduct demonstrations and training for cooperators or other interested groups on WS control methods, procedures, and program objectives. This may include preliminary instruction and training of new personnel or WS equipment, devices, chemicals, firearms, etc., reporting procedures, field responsibilities and other technical aspects of the program. Prepares and submits reports regarding daily, weekly or monthly damage control problems and activities, observations, events and relevant data collected. May participate in aerial hunting of predators as a gunner or ground crew member in areas where it is authorized by State law.Must demonstrate a respect for safety in all operations, including the operation of motor vehicles, firearms, control devices, and equipment. Coordinates animal control efforts with the cooperators and cooperator's contractors, particularly in relation to public use. Records observations, sightings, activities, or other events daily for submission to supervisor.Performs job-related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of the habits, characteristics and habitats occupied by a wide variety of avianand mammalian species that are, or may become, a threat in terms of economic interests, public health aspects or human and/or livestock safety. Knowledge of, and the ability to interpret and apply, local, state and federal policies, regulations, laws and ordinances that affect not only animal damage control procedures but also other wildlife species that are usually beneficial. Knowledge of animal damage control techniques to carry out a full range of common technical duties. Knowledge of the principles of biological sciences, technical methods and procedures of assigned tasks. Knowledge of toxic material application procedures.

Minimum Qualifications:
   Education- High School diploma or GED certificate.
   Experience- Three (3) years of experience directly related to the standard duties as outlined.
   Equivalency- Completion of a post-secondary degree or certificate may substitute for years of experience.
   Certifications/License- Must have a valid state motor vehicle operator license.
