Purpose of Classification: | |
To direct and manage a multi-unit program (Presidents Office, New Mexico Department of Agriculture, College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences) for New Mexico State University that has major and direct national and statewide significance and impact upon university mission. Serves as a liaison with private, federal, state and local officials and international partners. Works under minimal supervision and reports directly to the president, director/secretary and dean. | |
Standard Duties: | |
The Director administers resource and operational activities to ensure delivery of services or products to citizens and industry. Director works closely with the office of the president, director/secretary and dean to establish overall goals, and priorities. The Director has extensive latitude for use of independent judgment and initiative. Assigned objectives are broadly defined by statute, grant, and university mission; routinely interacts with other state, federal, local, tribal counterparts. Objectives managed have an extensive relationship to the university mission and require direct accountability, including implementation of strategic direction, budgeting, and assessment. | |
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: | |
Knowledge of: university and department policies and procedures; local, state, and federal laws, and regulations; food and agriculture sector in New Mexico, the United States and internationally; regulated industries; principles and practices of public administration and fiscal and operational management; emergency response planning and training. | |
Skill in: short and long-range planning and implementation; problem analysis and resolutions; evaluating alternatives in decision-making; effective leadership and communication skills. | |
Use independent judgment and initiative; select, direct, evaluate, train, and supervise the work of assigned personnel; communicate effectively in written and oral form including public presentations; maintain accurate records; develop and maintain effective relationships; use independent judgment and initiative; take corrective planning action to maintain strategic course of university mission. | |
Minimum Qualifications: | |
Education- Master's degree in a related field. | |
Experience- Eight (8) years of increasingly progressive management experience in one or more areas that report to this position. | |
