Purpose of Classification:
Member of a diverse interdisciplinary team participating in the economic development, market analysis, and trend assessment of agriculture in areas related to specialty crops, the cattle industry, underserved farmers and ranchers, the grain industry, and development of value added processing applications in regard to the specialized market considerations for each component. Performs highly complex senior level planning, product development analysis, and project implementation geared toward global economic development and enhancement of the state's two billion dollar agricultural industry.
Standard Duties:
Works under limited supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.Identify and analyze current and future market trends, state and federal regulations, crop projections, quality attributes, pricing strategies, new market development and market share as it relates to the economic development of the specialty crop, value added processing and farming and ranching sectors of agriculture in the state. Develop and implement marketing strategies, both domestically and internationally for these sectors through trade shows, consumer education, and innovative market entry initiatives to increase market share and presence.Oversee the supervision of personnel to include: work allocation, training,promotion and enforcement of internal procedures and controls and problem resolution; evaluates performance and makes recommendations for personnel actions; motivates employees to achieve peak productivity and performance. Serve as a resource conduit in the economic development of agriculture through information dissemination, buyer/seller connections, logistical analysis, market assessment, and development of new approaches through innovation. Identify and analyze the agricultural industry's strengths and weaknesses to position and segment within the marketplace. Identify, analyze, and secure state and federal grants to enhance the economic viability of the agricultural industry. Advise industry of constraints, barriers, and potential impact of new state and federal regulations. Represent the New Mexico Department of Agriculture at relevant economic development meetings, seminars, and industry driven conferences. Perform other duties and services as may be necessary to fulfill the purposes of the Agricultural Market Development Act of 1979 as it relates to domestic and international marketing.Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
market research, market trend analysis, and statistical analysis. Knowledge and ability to develop, implement, coordinate, and administer economic market development strategies, promotional activities, and participation in domestic and international trade shows.
Excellent written and oral skills, especially grant writing, feasibility studies, and economic analysis. Familiarity with local, state, federal laws and regulations related to agriculture, value added processing, and specialty crops.

Minimum Qualifications:
   Education- Bachelor's degree in a related field.
   Experience- Five (5) years of experience directly related to the standard duties as outlined.
