Purpose of Classification:
Serves as an agricultural consultant, advisement and educational resource to organic producers, processors and agribusiness’ statewide.  Serves as the state representative and lead source for solicitation of organic certification information through the New Mexico Department of Agriculture (NMDA). Interprets policies and procedures of certification programs for the organic agricultural industry. Provides direct support and instruction to new and existing producers to obtain and/or maintain national organic certification. 
Standard Duties:
Provides direct certification assistance to New Mexico agricultural producers, processors and agribusinesses, educates and assists them in achieving and maintaining certified organic standards and program procedures, conducts research and provides training, technical advice and resources throughout the organic certification process in accordance with U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), National Organic Program (NOP) regulations and policies. Advise industry of constraints, barriers, and potential impact of new state and federal regulations. Coordinates with industry, commodity groups, affiliate associations and the New Mexico State University (NMSU) Cooperative Extension Service (CES) in the development, promotion, coordination, and delivery of Organic Education Programs. Develops and implements marketing strategies, both domestically and internationally for New Mexico food and agricultural products, specifically targeting organic, natural and healthy food products through trade shows, consumer education, and innovative market entry initiatives to increase market share and presence. Identify and analyze the state’s agricultural industry's strengths and weaknesses to position and segment within the marketplace. Identify, analyze, and secure state and federal grants to enhance the economic viability of the organic agricultural industry. Represent the New Mexico Department of Agriculture (NMDA) at relevant marketing and economic development meetings, seminars, and industry driven conferences. Monitors operational activities and effectiveness of results, and prepares reports as appropriate.  Perform other duties and services as may be necessary to fulfill the purposes of the Agricultural Market Development Act of 1979 as it relates to domestic and international marketing. Administers and monitors specific educational programs, to include budget planning and expenditure management. 
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge and understanding of the principles and practices applicable to the job. Understanding of NMDA's mission, vision and goals.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community. Skill in the use of personal computers and related software applications. Records maintenance skills.
Ability to develop basic training and marketing plans. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Ability to gather data, compile information, and prepare reports. Ability to develop and present educational programs and/or workshops.
Minimum Qualifications:
   Education- Bachelor's degree in a related field.
   Experience- Three (3) years of experience related to the standard duties as outlined.
   Equivalency- Any equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience as approved by Human Resource Services.
   Certifications/License- Candidates must have International Organic Inspector Association (IOIA) Training Credentials, 100 level or higher in crop, livestock and processing scopes.
