Purpose of Classification:
Provides advisement, certification assistance, and related educational services to New Mexico farmers. Serves as the state representative for the solicitation of organic certification from local farmers. Interprets policies and procedures of certification programs for industry.
Standard Duties:
Provides direct certification assistance to New Mexico farmers, educates and assists farmers in maintaining eligibility standards and program procedures, provides advice regarding organic certification. Participates in the development, promotion, coordination, and delivery of Organic Education Programs, including: outreach and participation in marketing/promotion programs. Coordinates and/or participates in efforts to build relationships with area businesses to establish and develop new opportunities for the Organic Commodity Industry. Administers and monitors specific educational programs, as assigned, to include budget planning and expenditure management. Participates, as assigned, as a member of community groups and organizations to promote the Organic Commodity Industry within the service area. Monitors operational activities and effectiveness of results, and prepares reports as appropriate. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge and understanding of the principles and practices applicable to the job. Understanding of NMDA's mission, vision and goals.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community. Skill in the use of personal computers and related software applications. Records maintenance skills.
Ability to develop basic training and marketing plans. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Ability to gather data, compile information, and prepare reports. Ability to develop and present educational programs and/or workshops.
Minimum Qualifications:
   Education- Bachelor's degree in a related field.
   Experience- No previous work experience required.
   Equivalency- Any equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience as approved by Human Resource Services.
